George MacDonald

George MacDonald (1824–1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Congregational minister, widely regarded as the founding father of modern fantasy literature. Best known for Phantastes, The Princess and the Goblin, At the Back of the North Wind, and Lilith, he mentored fellow writer Lewis Carroll and profoundly influenced C.S. Lewis (who called him “my master”), J.R.R. Tolkien, G.K. Chesterton, and Madeleine L’Engle. His fairy tales and fantasy works are the basis for The George MacDonald Library series.
